Member of parliament Burhan Al-Mamouri responded to demand to shut the American embassy in Baghdad from Muqtada Al-Sadr. Al-Mamouri claimed in a NRT Arabic published statement that they will start a campaign to compile official signatures closing the American embassy in the capital as ordered by Muqtada al-Sadr. Al-Mamouri also said they will request the Parliament President to call an extraordinary session to review the closing of the American embassy. This is only a recommendation right now. After that, the law would be entered for voting by House of Representatives.
Early morning, Muqtada al-Sadr, chairman of the Sadrist movement, urged the parliament and government to vote on closing the American embassy in Iraq since the latter totally supports the Zionists against Gaza.
From the standpoint of supporting the oppressed in the east and west of the earth, I demand (the Iraqi government) and (the Iraqi parliament) with all its factions and orientations, for the first time and for the sake of public, not private, interests, to vote on closing the American embassy in Iraq for unlimited American support for the terrorist Zionists against Gaza.” Al- Sadr said in a blog post on the (X) website subsequently picked up by NRT Arabic.
In a recent interview, the speaker emphasized the significance of guaranteeing the diplomatic personnel of the embassy’s security and safety. Closing the embassy would, he underlined, depend on a commitment to guard the personnel against any attack by the militias meant to disturb Iraq’s security and stability. The speaker also expressed their expectations of government reaction on their demand.
Should the parliament and government overlook the issue, he said, they will later announce something else. He reiterated everyone should comply and refrain from carrying guns.
“We hope that the jihadist and the axis of resistance will not object to this demand under the pretext of economic difficulty caused by the American treasury,” he stated closingly. God forbid silence all around leading to poverty, weirdness, and normalcy.
