Declared on Friday, Burhan Al-Mamouri, an Iraqi Parliament member, stated he plans to launch a signature gathering campaign to propose a resolution calling for the American embassy in Baghdad shutting. The proposal answers a plea by Muqtada Al-Sadr, leader of the Sadrist movement.

Al-Maamouri said today that they will begin a campaign to collect MPs’ signatures, closing the American embassy at Al-Sadr’s request.

“We will ask the Presidency of the Parliament to organize a special session to propose a legally enforceable draft legislation aimed at closing the American embassy. Next, we will vote on the draft law by the House of Representatives.”

Head of the Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr has requested the US Embassy in Iraq to be shutdown in Palestinian solidarity.
