Burhan Al-Mamouri, a member of the Iraqi Parliament, declared on Friday that he plans to initiate a signature collection campaign in order to propose a resolution that would call for the closure of the American embassy in Baghdad. The proposal is in response to a call made by Muqtada Al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist movement.

Al-Maamouri announced today that they will launch a campaign to collect the signatures of MPs to close the American embassy at the request of Al-Sadr.

“We will request the Presidency of Parliament to hold a special session to propose a binding draft law aimed at closing the American embassy. Subsequently, we will vote on the draft law within the House of Representatives.”

The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, has called for the United States Embassy in Iraq to be closed in support of the Palestinians.
