According to political analyst Sabah Al-Aqili, it appears that America is attempting to cause harm to Iraq. This is due to the government’s recent move to work with Iran to ensure a steady supply of gas to power stations, as well as the prime minister’s visit to Damascus to strengthen cooperation with the Syrian side.
Al-Aqili informed Al-Maalouma that the sanctions enforced by America on certain nations, such as Iran, are unilateral sanctions. From this perspective, Iraq has no obligation to comply with them since they are not sanctions or UN resolutions.
He stated that America is seeking to restrict some countries, which could potentially harm Iraq despite its independent decision-making and freedom to choose any country to work with.
He suggested that the relationship between Iraq and Iran, as well as the approach of Al-Sudani towards Syria and strengthening cooperation with it, have provoked the American side. This has led to Washington taking steps aimed at harming Baghdad, particularly due to its hostile policy towards certain countries such as Iran and Syria.
