Parliamentarian on Personal Status Law: Objections have become few and we will proceed with it

MP Yasser Al-Husseini said that the Personal Status Law was going to be put to a vote in the upcoming sessions, as it enjoyed the support of many MPs.

“Amending the Personal Status Law according to Islamic Sharia is a constitutional right, and we must not be carried away with political whims in the enactment of laws,” he stated.

He continued by pointing out that “there is a political acceptance and agreement to proceed with the law, especially after the Coordination Framework announced its full support for passing it,” explaining that “objections to the law have become few after those concerned clarified the real details of its paragraphs.”.

He further emphasized that “much of what was announced in the media is contrary to reality regarding personal status,” adding, “The proposal to amend the Personal Status Law will be presented for the first reading during the next few sessions.”.

The Coordination Framework demanded that the House of Representatives start reading the Personal Status Law and announced its stand on the law, in addition to the most prominent terms that were suspected.
