Iraqi PM directs strategic aviation and transportation development plans

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired a meeting to monitor transportation projects within the federal budget for 2023. He directed the preparation of a plan to enhance the aviation sector, specifically Iraqi Airways.

The Planning, Transportation, and Finance Ministers attended the meeting, joined by advisors, representatives, and directors-general from relevant departments and agencies.

The meeting discussed the ministry’s projects for the upcoming three years. These projects align with government priorities and will be allocated, funded, executed, and distributed across governorates.

Al-Sudani stressed the need to address implementation and funding challenges for projects by devising solutions and identifying alternatives to overcome obstacles.

The meeting discussed progress on the Grand Faw Port project and completion stages of the Basra-Shalamjah and Sawa-Hajamah railway lines. Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of railway transport development as infrastructure advancement and convenient citizen transportation.

During the meeting, al-Sudani instructed the development of a plan to enhance the aviation sector and Iraqi Airways. This included improving their specialized workforce and supportive service projects, as well as other service projects in the transportation sector.
