According to a specialist, the government has a responsibility to share its plans for next year’s budget by mid-month. However, there are reports that the government has not been able to implement budgets for 2023, 20224, and 2025, and officials and advisors have been instructed not to discuss the matter. The government seems to be keeping information about the current and future budgets confidential, which may be appropriate. This situation is intriguing to consider.

At present, the budget has not been approved due to a specific change made to it in September. Prior to this alteration, the budget had already been approved. The change made in September resulted in the budget being deemed unapproved, and it now requires Parliament’s approval once again.

I reached out to my contact in Iraq from the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) to inquire about the project to delete the zeros. I was informed that the project is now active and no longer a later project. When I asked for target dates, I was told that they plan to redenominate before the end of this year. This aligns with our thoughts on reinstatement timeframe for January 2024 and other related events.

According to a recent article in The Wall Street Journal, Iraq has requested a special shipment of $1 billion in cash from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. However, U.S. officials have not granted approval for this request. They believe that it goes against their efforts to control how Baghdad uses dollars and to prevent illegal cash flows to Iran. For the past twenty years since the U.S. invaded Iraq, the U.S. has provided $10 billion or more annually to Baghdad through cargo flights that transport large pallets of cash. The money is drawn from Iraqi oil sales proceeds deposited at the Fed. Unfortunately, these bank notes have become a source of illegal dollars for powerful militias, dishonest politicians, and even Iran, according to U.S. officials.

I haven’t received any updates from the redemption center people about whether they will be working this weekend. I’m having trouble reaching them as their phones appear to be off. I’m not sure if this is a good sign or just a coincidence. Yesterday, some of them mentioned that they are on standby for currency exchanges, which I believe could be significant. Let’s wait and see if any developments arise from this.
