On Wednesday, Bengen Rekani, the Minister of Housing and Reconstruction in Iraq, announced plans to build five new cities with the goal of creating 200,000 new housing units in Baghdad, Babel, Karbala, Nineveh, and Fallujah.
Earlier today, he informed reporters that the bidding for the five urban centers in important regions was supposed to start on July 30. However, due to the high level of interest and requests, the deadline has been pushed back to August 15.
He continued by saying that applications will be accepted starting next week. He also mentioned that they are anticipating a significant number of proposals from foreign and Arab corporations who are keen to invest in these innovative urban developments.
According to Rekani, the bids will be carefully evaluated based on both vertical and horizontal construction approaches. These upcoming urban communities in the specified provinces are expected to provide nearly 200,000 housing units.
