Today, Saturday, the Minister of Trade, Atheer Al-Ghurairy, announced that the locally marketed wheat crop for the year 2023 in Iraq has reached a record high of 5,194,000 tons. This is a significant achievement and a milestone in the history of wheat cultivation in the country.

During a conference organized by the General Company for Grain Trade under the theme “The Season of Goodness and Success, We Have Achieved Self-Sufficiency,” he delivered a speech on behalf of the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani.

During his speech, Al-Ghurairy expressed his ministry’s success in acquiring substantial amounts of wheat during the marketing season. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the security services in preventing the smuggling of wheat to and from the governorates. He highlighted their crucial role in this aspect and mentioned the ministry’s coordination with its monitoring agencies in all governorates of the country.

He anticipated a significant increase in production and quality for the upcoming year due to the government’s plans to utilize modern agricultural and irrigation techniques, alongside other supportive measures, to expand cultivated areas.
