“Controversial points” between Baghdad and the region delay the approval of the oil and gas law

Ali Abdul Sattar Al-Marshoud, a member of the Oil and Gas Committee, has stated that the committee has not yet received the oil and gas law. This is because there are still some controversial issues that need to be resolved between Baghdad and Erbil. The approval of this law is dependent on resolving these issues.

Al-Marshoud stated that the referral of the law to the Oil and Gas Committee was delayed due to disagreements between the regional and federal governments. He also noted that the central

The government is not willing to change the paragraphs that the regional government is obligated to modify, which goes against the law’s intent.

He mentioned that talks are ongoing between the Ministry of Oil, the Prime Minister’s committee, the regional government, and political factions to resolve outstanding issues.

Al-Marshoud has made it clear that the approval of the oil and gas law is dependent on resolving the points of controversy through productive meetings. He emphasized that the law will be approved during the current session once all contentious issues have been resolved.
