On Sunday, MP Saud Al-Saadi, who leads the Parliamentary Rights Bloc, requested explanations from President Abdul Latif Rashid, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, and Minister of Justice Khaled Shawani regarding the legal actions taken in response to the Iraqi Parliament’s Resolution No. (18) of 2020. The resolution calls for the removal of foreign forces from Iraqi territory.
A statement received by Al-Saadi called for clarifying the reasons for not publishing the decision in the Official Gazette.
According to the statement, Al-Saadi shared the decision sent by the House of Representatives with the Presidents of the Republic, the Ministers, and the Minister of Justice.
The Iraqi Parliament agreed on a resolution on January 5, 2020, requiring Baghdad to withdraw foreign soldiers from the nation.
The decision was made two days after an airstrike near Baghdad airport by Washington resulted in the deaths of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the commander of the Iraqi Popular Mobilisation Forces, and Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Iranian Quds Force.
