On Saturday, Muhammad Dahham, a member of the Unified Anbar Alliance, confirmed the defeat of a progressive party headed by Speaker of Parliament Muhammad al-Halbousi in the Sunni provinces’ upcoming elections. This suggests significant changes in the Sunni political landscape.
In a statement to Al-Maalouma, Dahham stated that the reforms implemented by Al-Sudani in Al-Anbar governorate have resulted in a marked decrease in the progress of Al-Halbousi party in that region, as well as in other Sunni governorates. There is now greater trust in the oversight bodies and their ability to disclose corrupt practices in the Sunni governorates.
In his statement, he mentioned that a political group headed by Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi is likely to face a significant setback in the upcoming elections because several of its leaders are involved in corruption cases. He also hinted at substantial shifts in the Sunni political landscape.
