The economic advisor to the Prime Minister, Mazhar Mohammed Salih, considered on Saturday that Iraq is witnessing a “big” leap through the spread of the use of electronic payment cards after its economy was based on cash payments.

This came in a speech he delivered on behalf of Al-Sudani during the Electronic Payment Conference towards Financial Stability in Iraq, which was attended by a Shafaq News Agency correspondent.

Saleh said in his speech, “Iraq is currently witnessing development in the field of official projects in the information age and its contributions to enhancing them.”

He added that the financial and digital economic policy has taken an important path to draw up a financial inclusion program, and that the great leap in the number of electronic systems that Iraq is witnessing from a shift from a cash-based economy to stimulating a great leap through spreading the use of electronic payment cards, starting from government collection and ending with shopping payments.

Saleh continued by saying, “The digital policies launched by the government a year ago are the most important issues brought by the government program in implementing e-governance to protect public money from corruption.”

He added, “One of the most important effects of this governance is determining the efficiency of payment systems, thus shifting from cash to digital payments on an ongoing basis and advancing electronic collection.”
