Erdogan in Baghdad and an "Iraqi-Turkish" economic forum in Basra

On Tuesday morning, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, had a meeting with the Ambassador of the Turkish Republic to Iraq, Ali Reza Konay, to discuss the upcoming visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. They also talked about a joint economic forum between the two countries, which will take place in Basra, situated in the south of Iraq.

A statement from his office, received by Shafaq News Agency, revealed that the meeting reviewed Iraq and Turkey’s cooperation and discussed ways to enhance and progress their relationship for the benefit of both nations.

During the meeting, they talked about Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s upcoming visit to Iraq. During their discussion, they talked about the possibility of establishing a collaborative economic work forum in Basra. Additionally, they touched upon Turkey’s participation in the development path project alongside its neighboring countries. In addition, they addressed the topic of shared water and the plan to establish a joint measurement center on the Iraqi-Turkish border.

At the meeting, Al-Sudani expressed his backing for enhancing economic and trade relations between the two nations. He emphasized the importance of boosting partnership, economic interdependence, and investments. He also stressed the need to set up joint committees to oversee the execution of memorandums of understanding and bilateral agreements between the two neighboring countries.
