Out of the 329 legislators in Iraq, 32 demanded to remove Ambassador Alina Romanski from the nation and close the US embassy in Baghdad. Regarding their request, they have said that the cause behind the continuous bloodshed and war in Gaza is To discuss eliminating the American ambassador, closing the embassy, and severing connections with nations supporting Israel; the legislators have requested an extra-ordinary secret conference. According to the proposal, the Palestinian matter should also be addressed in a special session.
On October 27, Muqtada al-Sadr, leader of the Sadrist movement, asked the parliament and the federal government to decide on whether to “support” the Palestinians by removing the US Embassy from Iraq.
“I call on (the Iraqi government) and (the Iraqi parliament) with all its groups and orientations, for the first time and for the sake of public and not private interests, to vote on closing the American embassy in Iraq because of the unlimited American support for the terrorist Zionists,” Al-Sadr wrote on the “X” site, formerly Twitter. Should the resolution be passed, he highlighted the need to “protecting its (US Embassy) diplomatic personnel and not be exposed to them by the shameless militias that want to undermine the security and safety of Iraq.”
Al-Sadr also said, “We will have another position that we will announce later if the government and parliament don’t respond.”
In a statement released last week, the US Consulate in Erbil and the US Embassy in Baghdad said that non-essential staff were leaving because of rising security fears.
