Washington reveals the departure of its non-essential employees from Iraq

The US State Department ordered the evacuation of non-essential personnel from its embassy in Baghdad and consulate in Erbil on Friday.

The statement, which coincided with the escalation of tension in the region, explained that the evacuation order was issued because of the growing security threats that were impacting the safety of US crews and interests in the area.

The US diplomatic mission in Iraq will exclude non-essential employees and employee family members from the order.

The statement urged Americans not to travel to Iraq due to terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflicts, uprisings, and limited assistance from the US mission.

The Foreign Ministry updated its travel advice and warnings.

The American “Ain al-Assad” facility in western Iraq was the target of a drone attack on Saturday by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.

The strike occurs in the midst of Washington’s support for Israel in the conflict with Hamas, which has so far claimed hundreds of Palestinian lives, and while the Islamic insurgency poses a danger to US interests in Iraq.
