On Wednesday, former Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi urged the activation of the House of Representatives decision to withdraw foreign forces from Iraq, citing the current events in Palestine’s Gaza Strip.
Abdul Mahdi issued a statement today stating that in response to the recent aggression against Palestine, two urgent demands need to be addressed. Firstly, the immediate implementation of the House of Representatives’ decision on 1/5/2020 for the withdrawal of all American and NATO forces, along with all their personnel.
Abdul Mahdi demanded “preparedness at all levels and fields to face the long battle that awaits us” in response to the second requirement.
The Iraqi Parliament agreed on a resolution on January 5, 2020, requiring Baghdad to take steps to withdraw foreign soldiers from the nation.
The decision was made two days after an airstrike near Baghdad airport by Washington resulted in the deaths of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the commander of the Iraqi Popular Mobilisation Forces, and Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Iranian Quds Force.
