On Tuesday, Haider Hanoun, the head of the Integrity Commission, emphasized the significance of international collaboration and the importance of signing memorandums of understanding between countries to combat corruption. He highlighted how this cooperation could aid in the retrieval of convicted individuals and smuggled funds. Mr. Hanoun also acknowledged that the government had made significant strides in the fight against corruption over the past year and that these achievements were a result of the government’s determination to fight corruption.

The Commission of Integrity released a statement stating that Judge Haider Hanoun, along with the vice president and general directors of the commission, met with Egyptian Minister of Justice Counselor Omar Marwan at the commission’s headquarters. During the meeting, Judge Hanoun emphasized the significance of the memorandums of understanding the commission has signed with counterpart agencies in Arab countries and others, especially with the Arab Republic of Egypt. He stressed the importance of communication and cooperation between the Illicit Gains Agency affiliated with the Egyptian Ministry of Justice and the Prevention Department of the Federal Integrity Commission. The exchange of experiences between the two agencies can be helpful in preventing corruption, pursuing the inflation of funds, and curbing illicit gains.

The head of the authority has highlighted the successful collaboration between three authorities and national regulatory bodies, particularly the Federal Integrity Commission, in the fight against corruption. The efforts have resulted in significant achievements, such as the apprehension of senior officials and the exposure of fraudulent activities, including the misappropriation of funds belonging to taxpayers. As a result, billions of dollars have been returned to the state treasury. These efforts were made within a year of the government’s formation and the implementation of its program.

The Egyptian Minister of Justice, Counselor Omar Marwan, has praised the cooperation of the Iraqi Integrity Commission with state agencies, emphasizing the importance of this partnership in combating corruption. He stated that development and prosperity can only be achieved by fighting corruption. He further added that automating the procedures of state departments leads to good governance, which results in better service delivery to citizens. He also stressed on the need for qualified employees who possess the necessary skills and experience, and are placed in the appropriate positions for their work and specialization to improve the level and quality of performance. The minister highlighted that training and practice are essential for the development of employees’ abilities and skills.

During the meeting, the two parties discussed common issues related to preventing and combating corruption. They also agreed to maintain communication between regulatory agencies in both countries. The Egyptian Minister of Justice expressed their ministry’s willingness to cooperate with the Authority in order to overcome obstacles related to recovering accused and convicted individuals.
