A parliamentary committee is awaiting a meeting with the President of the Kurdistan Region regarding the oil and gas law, which the Sudanese insist on approving

The Parliamentary Oil and Natural Resources Committee confirmed, on Sunday, that it is waiting for the meeting with Kurdistan Regional President Nejirfan Barzani to finalize the final version of the Oil and Gas Law.

Ali Saadoun Al-Lami, a member of the Parliamentary Committee, told Shafaq News Agency that “the oil and gas law is one of the most important laws enacted in the interest of the country, and its approval has been delayed since the first session of the parliament.”

And he said that” the conflicts between the civil government and the Kurdistan region are the result of the result of the oil and gas law in the congress from 2007 until moment”.

He pointed out that “the committee on oil and parliamentary power met with the president of the republic and the ministers and a number of the heads of the political parties and all of them have the intention to approve the law”.

Al-Lami said, “The Oil and Energy Committee of the Parliament asked the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nejirfan Barzani, to discuss the law and until now we did not get a response.”

That’s what he affirmed “State leader Muhammad Shia al-Sudani demanded the endorsement of the Oil and Gas Regulation, which directs and orchestrates the oil connection between the middle and the region.”

Al-Lami explained that “70% of the disputes were resolved and only a few remained, and the current conflict that is suspended by the law is how to manage the oil rights in the Kurdistan Region. In the law, the management is done by the federal government, but the regional government has the final say.”

The oil and gas law is one of the most important disputes between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region, and the parties have not reached a settlement regarding it during the past four parliamentary sessions.

It is the responsibility of the political parties during the current parliamentary session to reach a solution to the existing conflicts and move towards understandings that satisfy all parties to approve the law.
